Lighting

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ The Lighting Experience ‧₊˚✩彡

Welcome back, everyone to another blog post!

Today, I will be talking about our uses of lighting within the project:

 Lighting

For most of the project, we used high-key lighting and natural light in order to match the ordinary ambiance of the beginning of the film. The first half of the film is bright and nothing BAD has happened yet which is why we chose this type of lighting in the first place. Furthermore, most of our lights are ambient or natural light from lights that are already there or sunlight streaming in from the windows nearby as we do not have much lighting equipment on hand (so it kind of is a practical issue but also to suit Ivy's psychology). In the second half of the opener aka the shady parking lot, that is where we switch from high-key lighting to low-key lighting in order to set the mood of something bad is about to happen! Although we tried to make the scene as dark as possible, realistically we cannot control the lights in a public space, so we just had to make do with the street lamps that were already on the scene.

Possibilities

If we had a bigger budget and more equipment, I would make a similar filming set to the parking lot location but make it way darker in order to further enhance the eerie mood we were trying to create through the low-key lighting. Moreover, the other scenes could have been made more dramatic maybe through 3-point lighting or motivated lighting if we had more equipment on hand. Other than these small tweaks and changes, I am pretty happy with how our footage turned out. I think with some minor adjustments during the editing stage we will be good to go on the lighting aspects of this project! Overall, I am proud of what we were able to create with our limited equipment and skills, and I know the results will be even better!

I love you guys so much for reading, and see you in the next one!
