Final Regards

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ THANK YOU ‧₊˚✩彡

Welcome back to the last blog before the FINAL reveal!

Today, I will be saying my final regards to all you guys who have been reading my blogs throughout my entire journey:

 In Disbelief

I know I have said this multiple times before, but I am just in disbelief that we are finally done! This time with BOTH the blogs and the project. This is my last actual blog post before the project is published, and the last time my voice is heard in a blog like this. Do not blame me for feeling sentimental right now as all my hard work on this blog for months has culminated into an ending like this. Although it is very sweet, I cannot help but feel the absence of something that has been prevalent throughout our lives for MONTHS now...

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

The End

You thought I forgot the most important thing? NO! Of course NOT! Thank YOU for reading and following my journey from August all the way until now. It has been a lot of hard work, but also extremely rewarding as well. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I could have never imagined that I could be capable of something like this a year ago. That just demonstrates that everyone has the ability to achieve unimaginable yet wonderful things, all they just need to believe in themselves and support from the people around them! So thanks for being there for me! I hope everyone keeps on improving and learning from each other so we can all grow as humans...

Goodbye, you guys...and look forward to the final project and my CCR (Creative Critical Reflection).

Theme

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ Message ‧₊˚✩彡

Welcome back to another Lavish blog!

Today, I will be talking about the main message of our project:

 Depiction

The main message of our film opener was to warn about the dangers of online strangers. As a result, we depicted Ivy meeting strangers online and agreeing to meet up with them in real life. To contrast Ivy, we had Daniella who was in the same position as Ivy reject the offer to meet up as she thought they were suspicious and also warned her friend not to meet up with them. However, Ivy disregards the warnings which has negative consequences for her as it leads to her getting kidnapped by them. Meanwhile, Daniella is left to pick up the pieces to find her friend before it is TOO late.

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

Lesson

The main lesson we can learn from this is to be wary of strangers and to learn some internet safety protocols. Stranger danger is NO joke as you may never know what their true motives are and what they could do to you. Furthermore, a basic internet safety rule is to never give out personal information that could be used against you as both Kevin and Stuart knew that Ivy was a vulnerable teenage girl looking for friends. This leads them to set a trap for her as they pose as nice people over the screen. This also connects to my next point that you never know who is on the other side of the screen, so it is better to be wary than put yourself in danger

I hope you guys understood the theme of the film opener and take its lesson seriously! Thanks for reading and stay safe.

Copyright in the Project

 ⋆˙⟡ Copyright and Audio ✶⋆.˚

Hi everyone! This time it will be a more serious topic.

Today, I will be detailing ALL the audio and sound used in the project:

Sound Effects

Most of the sound effects I used are copyright-free. However, for some that are not, I wish to attribute and give credit to them PLUS all the other ones I used just in case of any questions or issues down the line. Also, I included it for those who were wondering due to curiosity, or if anyone wants to make their own film as well then they could always get the ones I used for the project listed below. Moreover, the majority of the sound effects I just got from YouTube. However, there are some that I got from this sound archive website called https://freesound.org/ which is better for specific sounds and crediting the creators of those sounds.

The list of sound effects I used in order:

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

 Music

Furthermore, I also used some music within the film, but it is the same case with the sound effects (should be copyright-free but included below just in case). For example, the music and sound effects of the video game Ivy and Daniella are playing in their respective scenes can be heard by the viewer. Those sounds are licensed to the game Adopt Me! on Roblox, and I do not think they have any issue with people including the sounds of their game in videos for personal use. Other than that the other music you hear in the introduction scene is actually non-copyrighted. Thus, the ONLY real issue to address here is the music from the video game.

Project Progress

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ Last Stretch ‧₊˚✩彡

Are you excited to hear some updates? I know I am!

Today, I will be updating you guys on revisions and the results of it:

 Revisions

You might recall I said I was done with the editing process. However, I did go back to revise a few things after some feedback from others. This included the visibility of the font used and some other information for the audience as there might have been TOO many lapses in time between some scenes. Therefore, I made the font more legible and added some additional information to lessen the assumptions made by the audience. Of course, these are all MINOR changes that took a few minutes, but I am sure they make a world of a difference to the experience of the audience!

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

DONE

After the revisions, we are finally DONE! I am so glad to be done with the creation of this project, and I cannot WAIT for you guys to see the final result. Be patient though as I have a few more things to discuss before I finally release it. I have to get all the customary stuff out of the way before having fun! Honestly, I cannot believe we are done with the film opener, but I am still NOT done with this blog. Although we might be near the end, you still need to stick with me here till the end! You got that?

Sorry for getting a little personal in that last sentence, but you have NO idea how much this means to me! THANK YOU FOR BEARING WITH ME!!

My Role

 ⋆˙⟡ Contributions ✶⋆.˚

Welcome Loungers! It is THAT time of the day again!

Today, I will be elaborating on what my role during this project was:

Planning

My very first contribution to this project was coming up with the initial story idea alongside Yiqi. As you may know from previous blog posts, I was inspired by the MANY horror films I had watched with my friends and wanted to do something similar to that. As a result, I proposed a kidnapping film idea with Yiqi expanding upon the details which led to my group agreeing to do it. Then the actual storyboarding and scripting for the film was something we ALL had a part in doing as everyone's opinion matters

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

Acting

Moving on, you may have noticed that I played a supporting role in the actual project, the character Daniella. As an actor, I had TWO actual on-screen scenes: one at the beginning and one at the very end. Although I did not do much acting, it actually took me a LOT of takes in order to get those clips as I had a very hard time acting. This is due to my lack of experience in that field, but I still pushed through and got it done anyway!

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

Filming

When I was not being filmed, I helped by coordinating the scene, holding the camera ONCE, and giving rides to everyone. Even though I was NOT the director, I still helped as much as I could when filming as I did not want to be a deadweight to my team. Thankfully, everyone was very supportive and communicated well, allowing us to work like a well-oiled machine

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

 Editing

Again as you may know from previous posts, I edited the ENTIRE project! It was such as fun and exciting learning experience for me. There were so many new things that I never knew how to do before that I figured out while editing, and I appreciate this project for allowing me to learn it. From color grading to special effects, this truly has been a novel experience that I could NOT have learned from any other class. So thank you AICE Media and my viewers for supporting my journey thus far, and I hope you guys continue to do so until the very end!

See you guys in the next one! I cannot thank you guys enough for listening to my ramblings, peace OUT!

Learning How to Edit

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ Gaining Experience ‧₊˚✩彡

We are back again with another blog from ME!

Today, I will be talking about some of the resources I used during the editing process:

 The Basics

Although I may some have some prior experience with editing and using Adobe Premiere Pro in general, it has been a while since I used it. This led me to Google tutorials on how to do simple things such as applying transitions or adjusting the volume throughout scenes. While I needed refreshers for just simple things within Premiere Pro, something that I have never done before is COLOR GRADING. Consequently, I searched for videos on how to color grade and copied their graphs for the horror effect. Thus, when you watch the final project, you WILL notice the colors look drastically different from the photos that I showed you in the filming blogs.

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

Special Effects and Atmospheric Design

In addition, I used some special effects throughout the film opener to emphasize the project's horror and suspense. Things such as noise or distortions and the color grading I mentioned above were abused heavily during scary scenes. Furthermore, although I know how to create a sound perspective from my sound story project, I still watched videos on how OTHERS did theirs. This allowed me to gain a fresh perspective on what I needed to achieve and employ during the editing process, so I could have something that made the viewer really feel like they were in the scene with Ivy. In conclusion, I watched far more videos on how to achieve the look I created in the final result, but I just wanted to share with you guys some of the MOST impactful videos I watched.

Thank you for giving me your time of day, and stay tuned for the next one!

 ⋆˙⟡ In a Perfect World ✶⋆.˚

Welcome back to my blog everyone! This post will be the last one for this week.

Today, I will be talking about what we would do if we had a major/unlimited movie budget:

1. Actors

For actors, I would hire people who actually know how to act and are actors for a living instead of doing it ourselves. We do NOT have much acting experience ourselves nor have we gone to school/learned about it which is quite obvious in our acting. As a result, this makes dramatic or emotional scenes sometimes very awkward, and I acknowledge that limitation. However, in reality, we have budget limitations, but in a perfect world, I would hire TOP of the line actors who would portray these roles perfectly with the finesse that we do not just possess.

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

2. Costumes

I do NOT think anything needs to be changed about our costumes as they are realistic for what we are trying to portray in our project. We could probably use the utopian budget on just accessorizing more or having higher quality clothes, but in terms of appearances, I think the current ones fit our aesthetic and vision aptly.

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

3. Setting/Location

I talked about this problem in previous blogs (Day 2 of Shooting and Lighting) but due to the location we chose and had available we had issues with the lighting and atmosphere of the setting. In my Lighting blog, I suggested building a similar set to the actual parking lot we used during the project, but with less bright lights and a more eerie ambience. This would obviously cost quite A LOT of money, but since we have an unlimited budget, it would be worth the costs. For the house scenes, I think what we have now is fine as there were no issues with the current setting for part 1 of the opener.

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

 4. Lighting/Sound/Editing

Continuing from our previous paragraph, as you know there were problems with the lighting in the parking lot scenes due to the location, and I already proposed a solution in the paragraph above. Another thing is that we could make the lighting more dynamic in other scenes. It does not have to be anything BIG as it could just minor tweaks that just slightly adjust the atmosphere to be more fitting to our vision if we want to be perfectionists. However, other than that there is nothing else I could think of for lighting. Moving on to sound, there was some uncontrollable background noises during filming that were hidden during editing, but to save us the hassle in a perfect world, we would have better equipment to prevent that from happening in the FIRST place. Moreover, we could have a custom soundtrack made for us! That would UP the production quality by a few notches just by itself. Lastly, for editing, I would hire a professional editor that would know what cuts and transitions goes perfectly where and which filters/effects to use to create the certain atmosphere we want to portray as even though I have the knowledge I lack the experience a pro would have.

That is it for today! See you next week to discuss another exciting new thing about my project.

Specific Camera Shots/Angles

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ Why We Did It ‧₊˚✩彡

Welcome back to my lavish blog!

Today, I will be analyzing some of the shots from our filming day blogs:

 Ground Level

Okay, so we went with a ground-level shot to show Ivy walking toward the meet-up spot with an ominous atmosphere as you cannot see her face in this shot, making the viewer wonder what she will find at the agreed location while also having a foreboding feeling. This shot helps create suspense within the audience as she slowly heads toward her doom.  Furthermore, the tension in this scene is palpable as the audience has a feeling that something BAD will happen but cannot do anything about it. Overall, this camera
angle allows for the story to maintain its mysterious air before the climax unfolds.

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

Establishing Shot

You might be wondering why we did an establishing shot in the middle of the project? However, this is the beginning of a setting change which led us to choosing an establishing shot to help introduce the NEW scenery of this setting. This allows the audience to know we are onto the second part of our project. It also demonstrates that there will be new action happening here as it sets up the scene and helps develop Ivy’s character as a brave and determinant one due to her persisting on even if the place seems shady. Moreover, it also develops Kevin and Stuart as it highlights their personalities and intentions through their choice of place!

 ˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

Point of View Shot (POV)

For the last example, we chose to do a POV shot of Ivy getting kidnapped by Kevin and Stuart as it illustrates to the viewer what is the last thing she sees before the unthinkable happens to her. This also allows the audience to feel a strong sense of connection to Ivy as they are witnessing this event through HER eyes. Not through anyone else’s or even from a 3rd person perspective, but HERS which can allow for a shocking atmosphere as it is so sudden and something she never expected. In addition, it exemplifies the change in power as Kevin and Stuart are the ONLY ones in frame, and on top of that, the camera is tilted slightly at a low angle further emphasizing the power imbalance between Ivy and the antagonists.

You do NOT know how much I love you guys for taking time out of your day to read my blog. Do not forget to stay tuned for my next one, and bye!

Editing: Part 2

 ⋆˙⟡ Part 2 of Editing ✶⋆.˚

It is time to dive back into my Lounge!

Today, I will be updating you guys on our editing progress:

Time

It took us the WHOLE day to edit our entire project as we had to learn how to do quite a few things that we wanted from scratch. For example, just learning how to apply certain filters/effects or color grading was something we had never done before on Adobe. This led to us looking up tutorials on how to do this for our project to polish it and make it perfect. You might be wondering if we added any NEW footage to our film opener, but like I said before we are happy with what we have now. Thus, as of right now, we do not have any new scenes or plans to film any. In the case of if we ever do, I will inform you of all of these new changes in a future post but do not expect any for the time being.

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

Involvement

I know I said in previous posts that we were going to split the work up evenly amongst the four of us. However, we realized the impracticality of the plan when we were trying to implement it. Therefore, ONLY one of us will be the main editor doing the majority of the work while the others will help out when necessary. This also solved our issue of NOT everyone having access to Adobe as there is a device limit of TWO for the school accounts. Who is the main editor? It is ME! I volunteered for the job myself as I am the one with the Adobe account PLUS I also have some prior experience with editing and Adobe software in general. Everyone else will help out when they have their own personal additions or if I am struggling with the workload!

Thank you for stopping by my blog! I hope you enjoyed the insights and behind-the-scenes look at OUR editing process.

Day 2 of Shooting

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ 2nd Filming Day ‧₊˚✩彡

Welcome back, everyone! We are finally on to the 2ND filming blog!

Today, I will be talking about what we did on day 2 of shooting:

 Shooting

On day 2 of filming, we finished the rest of the scenes for the project. The second half of the film takes place in a shady parking lot, so obviously we had to go to a shady parking lot to film at night. Scheduling a time and place where everyone could meet up was sort of tricky, but we made it work out as we just decided on going to our local Target to film at around 6-7 PM. All we had to do was film the scene where Ivy goes to meet up with Kevin and Stuart and gets kidnapped by the camera (as we never clearly see what the antagonists look like). Nevertheless, even though ONLY really Ivy shows up in the footage, everyone went to film in order to help out with filming the scenes as this is a group project.

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

Challenges

One of the challenges we encountered while filming was that our tripod suddenly broke right when we were about to film the stuff for day 2, so we had to improvise with a phone holder. This leads to the camera quality being less stable in the second half of the film, but that works fine for us as this is supposed to be the scary part so the handheld more natural feel is perfect for the eerie atmosphere we want to create. Furthermore, since we were in a public space, there were quite a few cars that passed by while filming which was annoying as we had to wait until they were gone so we could resume working on the project. This led to MANY interruptions and some uncontrollable sounds in the footage that had to be removed during editing. ON top of that, the lighting (I mentioned this in the lighting blog too) was too bright, but we worked with what we had and completed filming! Overall, I am happy with our final result, and I cannot wait for you all to see it when it is done.

Thanks for reading everyone, and see you in the next post! I appreciate you taking time out of your day to read my work.

Representation

 ⋆˙⟡ The People ✶⋆.˚

Welcome back to another blog, Loungers!

Today, I will be discussing the representation of our project:

Stereotypes

I would say the representation of our film is fair as there is some truth to the roles as these types of cases do happen in real life. This is why internet safety and stranger danger are such a BIG deal now as it is based on these incidents. When it comes to the topic of stereotypes, I would say our film IS as we do kind of play into the naive teenage girl where she acts like a dumb teenager and the damsel in distress stereotype. Furthermore, both of our antagonists are male which is also stereotypical as it is a common trope for a guy to kidnap a girl rather than the other way around. Something that breaks the mold is that the kidnappers are not older adult men but rather the same age as the kidnapees. Lastly, I argue that the character of Daniella is NOT as stereotypical as the rest of the film as she does not play into the tropes mentioned above.

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

Representation

We are kind of challenging representation with our film as it is uncommon for an Asian to star in these types of films as most Asian parents would never let their children go out at night alone to hang out with people they have never met before. In addition, Asians are NOT usually seen as the reckless adventuring type that Ivy is portrayed as in the film opener. Thus, even though our project is quite stereotypical, we do challenge it a little bit with our main character. Although I do wish our project was less stereotypical, I am NOT sure how adding more people into the story would fit into the plot unless they were just cameos. Moreover, I do not feel the need to make any changes to our current characters as I am perfectly happy with what we have right now.

Thanks for reading, and I just KNOW you will enjoy the next one!

Inspiration

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ Inspo ‧₊˚✩彡

Hello Loungers! I hope you are excited about another NEW blog!

Today, I will be talking about what inspired me to come up with the plot:

 The Start

While I am not an avid horror fan, I have some friends who LOVE to watch horror, so unfortunately, I get dragged into watching them as well. The main inspiration for the plot of this project was the movie "Megan is Missing" by Director Michael Goi. After saying that, I am sure your minds will immediately recognize the similarities between the plots. Both feature a teenage girl who meets up with strangers they talk to online and gets kidnapped while her friend is left to pick up the pieces left behind. However, that is where the similarities end as the plot for the movie is far darker than what we wanted to do for a school project plus we do NOT have the same freedoms as them to do that kind of plot.

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

Building Upon

Remember when I said Yiqi also helped me with coming up with the plot? While the initial idea was mine, she helped expand upon it adding ideas such as meeting up through an online game rather than how it was in the movie, having multiple antagonists/kidnappers, etc. Another movie that inspired this plot was "The Black Phone" by Director Scott Derrickson (I also did a title sequence analysis for it. Check out that blog if you have not seen it already) but to a lesser extent as this one is set in the 70s. This is obviously another kidnapping movie, and I liked the ending of this one more, so if I ever had to come up with an ending to the story it would be similar to this one. Of course, we are only doing an opener, so there is no need for one. Overall, these two are the main movies that inspired me to create this plot for the opener as they have had a HUGE impact on me, and I wanted to share that with the world.

I hope you enjoyed reading today's blog, and stay updated on any future ones!

Updated Story Board

 ⋆˙⟡ New Story Board ✶⋆.˚

Welcome to another post on this lovely blog!

Today, I will be updating our story board to match what we have for our project so far: (UPDATE PICS)

Story Board

Thomson

Davina

Yiqi

Rafael

─ ⊹ ⊱ ☆ ⊰ ⊹ ─

Explanation

It has been a while since we talked about the story board, so we decided to revisit it and update it based on what we have now (this might NOT be the last update). So you may be wondering why we decided to change things, well I mentioned in the "Unexpected Challenges" blog that we made adjustments to the script and storyline in order to suit what we could actually do while filming. I am now going to explain those changes as we did not know at the time of planning the initial story board how things were going to play out, but now after filming, we do

As you can see from the first frame, we did NOT change anything except for adding more details. However, from the second onwards, there is a drastic change. Not in terms of story but in terms of the framing, scenery, and positioning. These adjustments ARE reflected in the story board, and the reason for the changes is simply while filming we figured it would be better to do it in a living room/sitting room location rather than a bedroom as bedrooms are rather personal and harder to film due to space issues.

Furthermore, there are changes in how things play out visually such as in the 5th and 6th frames rather than having a separate shot for Ivy texting and then a close-up of what is happening plus a split frame of the reactions. We chose to replace it with a split frame of the over-the-shoulder shot and the phone screen while the reaction would still happen but just through text in the next frame. While the story and the effect of the initial scenes are still there, it was just more convenient for us to film and edit it this way to make sure there is NO confusion about what is going on.

Overall, these are just some of the minor adjustments we have made, but ALL the reasons behind them are practically the same whether it was just easier to film/edit the scene this way or made more sense for events to progress this way. In the end, this reflects our current product far more than the initial story board we had from BEFORE we filmed!

I appreciate that you guys took the time to read my blog, and see you in the next one!
